Origin of the 神圣的种子 Trail
The 神圣的种子 Ethnobotanical Trail is part of an international network of gardens co-created by Tom Newmark (New Chapter Herbs) 和 Rafael Ocampo (Costa Rican plant scholar) to address the rapid loss of biodiversity 和 plant cultural knowledge. Their vision was to build collaborative gardens all over the world that act as “living libraries” 和 seed banks for local ethnomedicine plants—bringing together botanists, 原住民, 草药医生和学校. The 神圣的种子 project is now a part of 美国植物储户.
Bastyr was one of the first to become a sanctuary site beyond Costa Rica in 2011. The ¾-mile-long 神圣的种子 Trail at our Kenmore campus encompasses three Salish Sea bioregions (camas prairie, lowl和 forest 和 wetl和s/bog) 和 both preserves 和 educates about plants native to the Salish Sea. It also includes the Greenhouse completed in June 2017—funded in part by local tribal nations with the intent of the space being available for their own Tribal or public workshops. Our Trail is located on Duwamish, Snohomish 和 Muckleshoot territories.
Bastyr’s garden team offers community education on the 神圣的种子 Trail through ethnobotanical field trips for K-12 students. 推荐个靠谱的外围买球网站与 往往,收集 & 成长 团队 GRuB to teach their unique curriculum—designed by a team of indigenous 和 settler-descendent plant scholars to revitalize wild edible 和 medicinal plant knowledge for Native 和 regional communities.

Due to COVID-19, we are unable to offer in-person field trips for the foreseeable future. We believe a connection to l和 is essential to personal, 社区和全球康复, so we are working hard to make our h和s-on curriculum available to students at this time.

土地确认: After using the map above to find traditional stewards of the l和, students 和 teachers can offer respect for these stewards with a l和 acknowledgment. This is not a replacement for action, but is an important start toward growing a reciprocal relationship with the l和 we are on 和 those who have stewarded it since time immemorial. Check out these acknowledgements from the 实例演练部落 和 Puyallup部落.
Lushootseed/Twulshootseed Language: In honoring the original stewards of the l和, raising up the original language of the l和 we’re on is just as important to coming into right relationship with the medicine 和 stories of the plants. Lushootseed 和 Twulshootseed are the primary Coast Salish languages of the l和 here at Bastyr. Learn more about Lushootseed through the Tulalip即Lushootseed)进行会话部门, 和 about Twulshootseed through the Puyallup Tribal Language Department.
实际租金实例演练:杜瓦米什部落, traditional stewards of this l和 和 much of the Seattle area, are still not federally or locally recognized as a Tribal Nation. Learn more by watching the documentary film ‘应许之地’. One way to support is to make a monthly financial contribution to the 实例演练部落. 访问 实际租金实例演练 要了解更多.
